12. Who will care for the newfie when you are away from home for extended periods or on vacation?
13. Do all family members want a newfie? If not, explain.
14. Your newfie puppy will require housetraining, training to keep him off furniture and from jumping up, socialization and training classes, daily exercise and weekly grooming. During the first several months, it will be much like having a new baby in the way it disrupts your life. Do you understand the time, energy and expense that will be required to get a Newfoundland puppy through its first year?
What types of things will you be doing to achieve this task? Please elaborate?
15. Will you promise to attend obedience training classes and puppy socialization classes with your Newfoundland puppy?
16. Do you want a male or female puppy? Color desired?
17. Would you consider the opposite?
18. Do you seek to show/breed your Newfoundland?
19. Do you seek a non-breeding Newfoundland that is for companion only and or for obedience and working titles?
20. All of our newfies placed as companions (non-breeding) are placed and sold with and AKC Limited Registration and a spay or neuter agreement. An AKC Limited Registrations means that they are registered with AKC and can obtain all obedience and working titles. The only restrictions are that they cannot have a litter registered nor be shown in the breed ring. Are you willing to spay/neuter?
21. Are you willing to have hips, elbows etc. evaluated at two years of age for OFA evaluation?
22. Do you have any interest in grown newfies between the ages of 1 to 4 years (or more) if one were to become available?
23. In placing Newfoundlands with buyers, we consider the agreement a pact between the parties to secure the dog’s welfare for its lifetime. In this agreement, we offer lifetime refuge for any dog we produce which the buyer cannot keep. Will you promise to return the dog to us should some unforseen circumstance prevent you from keeping the dog any longer with little or no monetary refund?
24. Many veterinary costs are higher for large breed dogs as many drugs such as antibiotics and heartworm preventatives are dosed at the per pound rate. Also, in the event of an unforseen injury a newfie could incur veterinarian bills that could range from $500 to $3000. If this did happen are you willing to provide and pay for such veterinarian expenses? The way that some people plan for this is to possible pay for insurance (this does not cover everything) or else save the same amount of money each year in the event that it was needed.
